RF Engineer III

Oversee installation, testing, operations, and maintenance of satellite earth station equipment and service resolution of technical issues. Operate and maintain RF subsystem (RFS), Gateway System Controller (GSC), Ground Based Beam Forming Equipment (GBBF), MSS Communications Processor (MCP), Satellite Base Station Subsystem (SBSS), Satellite Base Access Subsystem (SBAS), and all mechanical and electrical elements of the Teleport. Assume responsibility for escalation and emergency response requests in a 24 x 7 x 365 environment. Occasional work required during maintenance windows, outside of normal working hours. Monitor power, HVAC, fire detection/ suppression, and local security and monitoring systems. Accept and/or approve all invoiced materials and contract labor to include software and hardware delivery, installation, and testing services. Identify root causes on technical problems and develop procedural and technical recommendations for improvement. Plan and coordinate (with Engineering) implementation of new products into the production environment. Monitor specific system limitations to maximize capacity and efficiency. Perform equipment level capacity planning and network performance activities. Maintain equipment inventory and configuration management records, including software releases, patches, etc. Ensure compliance with applicable standards.

Engineer 1

Perform Satellite up and down linking of radio-frequency (RF) equipment used in large-scale satellite operations. Perform troubleshooting and repair of Satellite Earth Station equipment including High-Power Amplifiers (HPA), fiber-optic systems, Upconverters, Downconverters, RF switching units, Antenna Control Units (ACU), Low-Noise Amplifiers (LNA) and Low-Noise Block Downconverters (LNB). Monitor transmission streams, working with video and audio quality equipment, sound, color, and frame-accurate timing gear, maintaining the performance of MPEG-2 and 4 digital compression systems. Defining and executing system configuration changes, evaluating and executing hardware/software upgrades. Complete preventative maintenance, assist in build-out/expansion projects, perform systems integration and maintain the overall integrity of the DISH Network services.

Network Engineer

This position terminated suddenly when I was recalled to active military duty after the tragic events of 9/11/2001.

Overland Park, KS 2000 to 2001

Systems Engineer

Provide personalized support to account managers and customer engineering in direct support of Sprint by responding to written and telephone requests for technical and operational information. Delivered oral presentations on Cisco's Optical Network Switches and Cisco's Transport Manager (EMS), outlining their features and capabilities, to various clients. Installed, tested and demonstrated equipment that garnered a multi-million dollar contract with Sprints M.A.N. project.

Provide on-site technical support and Project Management at Sprint's OSSC in support of their TimePlex LINK     networks. Utilized UNIX based NMS, Time/View, to monitor, configure and troubleshoot the Sprint SS7 nationwide     network.

Security Officer

Responsible for maintaining a safe, orderly atmosphere for the security of patrons and animals in a 24/7 environment with high guest contact. Assisted undercover officers in apprehending shoplifters and ticket scalpers. Provide security for animals with "outdoor" access and routine checks on those locked indoors. Escort shop venders transporting currency.

Satellite, Wideband and Telemetry Systems

During my military career, I held and assisted in several key positions. I held Secret and Top Secret security clearances, depending on mission requirements. Called to active military duty after the tragic events of September 11, 2001 in support of Operation “Noble Eagle” and traveled the US in support of Presidential and Vice-Presidential services. 

  • Satellite/Wideband Communications. Supervisor and Manager responsible for the overall management and operation of deployed GMF Satellite Earth Station equipment, personnel, associated RF and test equipment and hardware. AN/TSC-85, AN/TSC-93, AN/TSC-94, AN/TRC-170.

  • Systems Control.  Responsible for all squadron communications work centers. Supervise all communications aspects, from installation, operation and maintenance through completion of mission.

  • Maintenance Control.  Provide management control to monitor, coordinate and direct the use of manpower and materiel in support of all squadron maintenance production.

  • First Sergeant.  Principal advisor to the commander on all issues related to the enlisted force on a wide range of topics including the health, esprit de corps, discipline, well being, professional development and recognition of all assigned enlisted members.
